So Trump’s pick for his new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, graduated from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law in California in 2011. She failed her bar exam and moved to China. China also does not allow foreign nationals to qualify as Chinese lawyers through its national bar examination.
Not a big deal since she’s not practicing law, right? Wrong!
Zacharia is on the record repeatedly describing herself as a lawyer. She claimed to have served as “general counsel” for a non-profit organization in California. This isn’t just a political opponent making an accusation.
All she has to do is identify the jurisdiction where she was licensed, the relevant dates, and the specific credentials she held. But she can’t do that. Zacharia says Pepperdine told her she could claim to be “a lawyer,” but not “an attorney.” Her other claims are still under scrutiny and she’s admitted she failed the bar exam.
If someone introduced me as an astronaut and I smiled and didn’t correct them, that would be deceitful on my part, yes? No difference here.
Xi visits and Trump hires Zacharia directly afterward. He said he thought she did a good job on her 1st time out. I have listened as she’s being interviewed by mainstream media outlets and she’s floundering. Her word salad blathering is not as good as Kamala’s… but she’s still a newbie. I thought she was a decent choice… I was wrong.
I understand that Trump isn’t going to personally background check everyone he appoints… but his team sure should be. Crazy. Especially considering he’s a businessman and not a politican, right?
