I don’t intend for this to be just another of my Facebook rants — this is valuable information, you guys. That you may know already. Still…
I’ve made no secret over the years that I’m a MAC ADDICT and I even had Apple products before it was cool. Now consider that iPhones make up 51% of all smart phones sales — and, many of us have the Facebook app installed. Do you have a clue where I’m headed?
On Facebook, you have a profile photo. You pick it. It might be you, your dog, or your significant other, but YOU pick it. What you may not know is that with iOS 6, many people (me included) noticed that FB contacts automatically imported into our “contacts book” on our iPhone — and, when we perform a regular sync of our iPhone with our computer, that same contact list imports right into our “contacts book” there as well. For those of us that have accepted “friend” requests on FB from business associates — and even for those of you that haven’t — that profile photo suddenly becomes a bit more important. Add to that… as a MAC user, my email program supports photos too. So when I reply to a message you send me, your FB profile photo gets inserted (and so does mine!).
Even if you don’t have an iPhone, chances are you know someone that does. And even if you aren’t experiencing what I’ve outlined above, chances are you know someone that is. Can you even imagine (if you aren’t seeing the same thing too) how many people I have in my contact list that look exactly the same?! That popular ‘equal sign’ in red. You know what I’m talking about. You can probably also imagine how many dogs and babies I call or email — because that particular friend chose a profile photo on FB that simply isn’t them. Oh… and did you know that if you list your birthday on FB, I get a notification of that through my calendar program as well — even if I don’t go on Facebook? So happy birthday to everyone — even if you look like a dog or a symbol or a baby.
And in other local news… it’s already above 90 degrees. Summer is here! FINALLY!
