Unbelieveable

They say that everyone deserves a second chance. That people make mistakes and should have the chance to redeem themselves. “Forgive and forget” has been said to me countless times in my life and most times I’ve tried to do just that.

This time, however, I just can’t seem to simply ‘forgive’ someone who has done something so cruel and disturbing that I almost have no words to describe it.

I’m talking about Michael Vick and his signing by the Philadelphia Eagles. Hard to believe that a person can be involved in something as disgusting as dog fighting and still get an NFL contract.

I’ve read some comments from people saying he should be allowed to play again, that if the people who are showing compassion for the dogs should also show it to a person, and that he’s ‘payed his debt to society’. Payed his debt?

The man served two years. Big deal. He filed for bankruptcy. So?

For those who are arguing those points; here is my problem with Vick playing again. Michael Vick helped kill eight dogs who performed ‘poorly’ in his little dog fighting enterprise. Now if Vick himself had a bad performance on the field, he could just tell his coach, “Sorry coach, I’ll work harder and do better next week.” The dogs couldn’t do that – they were either drowned, hung, shot or electrocuted.

Another problem I have with it is the fact that unlike dogs, Michael Vick knows the difference in right from wrong. Period. Is he sorry he lost his position with the Falcons? Yes. Is he sorry for getting caught? Yes. Is he sorry he did what he did? Nope.

If there are some people who think this post is a bit harsh, or that I’m being unreasonable, then you are missing the point. Playing in the NFL is a privilege – it’s not a right. Mr. Vick can look forward to one thing in Philly. The fans there who oppose him being signed will not soon let him forget what he did.

Vick back in the NFL – unbelieveable.
