Back in the day, my dogs always got a nail trim at the vet’s office. They no longer offer that service and since labs don’t really need grooming, the job falls to me. Because I didn’t work with them as puppies, it’s 10 times as hard now.
Dharma would like to recommend that if you get a puppy, you should get them used to having their feet touched and nails trimmed. She says it will make it much easier on the pet and the human in years to come.
Elevated anxiety to the point of almost being frantic.
That doesn’t just apply to the dogs, but also to me when I’m wielding the trimmers. 😏
I dread it every time and feel like I’ve ran a marathon by the time I’m finished. I clipped today and have a tickler on my calendar to trim again in 2 weeks. I figure all of us need practice to get a bit more comfortable with the dreaded task.
