an unconventional way to celebrate

So yesterday, I said it was the anniversary of our closing date on the barndo. I celebrated by…

Painting the deck!

Both Perry and Ben were doing other things so I celebrated the occasion alone. I thought I might need a crane to get out of bed this morning, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. It was warm and windy outside yesterday… the perfect weather to paint and get it to dry quickly so the dogs weren’t stuck inside for long.

I still have the stairway and another deck upstairs to do — and the 2 decks in back to stain. I’m dreading the railing most on that project.

I prefer stain to paint for decking!

For the record, I wouldn’t be painting the decks if they hadn’t already been painted by the previous owners. Painted wood is HOT on feet — mine and the hounds. They also seem slicker in the wintertime. I’m not a fan.

Now you know: In direct sunlight, painted decks can feel significantly hotter to the touch, sometimes by as much as 20°F.
