16 years seems like forever ago – and like yesterday

Aug 27, 2025

My Nanny passed away 16 years ago yesterday. It doesn’t seem like so long ago she was with us. The photo below was taken on her 95th birthday — she was 98 when she passed away.

She was Nanny to everyone.

While some call their grandmothers ‘Nanny,’ there were a lot of people that didn’t even know my Nanny’s name was Doris. Even the ladies at church referred to her as Nanny. She was witty and full of spunk — Godly and modest. I was so very fortunate to have her.

From the days she let me raise baby chickens in her backyard in town, to mixing iodine with baby oil so I could tan, to making lunch for me and whomever I brought with me during the school year, to taking care of Ben… she was a huge influence in my life and the lives of many others. I still miss her like she was here just yesterday. ❤️

Dentist day… for my Momma.

dentist visit selfie

Every doctor or dentist visit warrants a selfie and yesterday wasn’t an exception. My Mom sure looks amazing for 49 (49 or 94… can’t remember exactly which one). I understand why I can be happy and smiling since I’m not the one headed to the dentist’s chair, but why is she so thrilled? It could be that she’s found a perfect fit in her new dentist.

And in other news…

After my post regarding Cracker Barrel’s new logo just a couple days ago, they’ve already released a statement saying the old logo is going to stay.

Now you know: Photographer Robert Landsburg sacrificed his life in an attempt to save his photos during the Mount St. Helens eruption. He laid on top of his film, letting the volcanic ash cover him. Seventeen days later, his body and the preserved photos were recovered and used to document the eruption.
