why i rarely visit facebook

Jan 5, 2026

I read that older Facebook users stop using the platform over privacy concerns, while younger ones break from it over mental health and prioritizing engagement.

The reason I rarely visit FB anymore doesn’t make the top 5 list.

And no, it’s not because of my dogs; however, I HATE seeing the fake “dog is hurt” shares — and especially the ones struggling for adoption or rescue from some precarious situation.

what should hugo do?

Based on available data up to 2026, here are the top five reasons people stop using Facebook, drawn from surveys, studies, and user sentiments:

  1. privacy concerns
  2. irrelevant ads
  3. family and friends aren’t as active as before
  4. shift to alternative platforms
  5. mental health and time wastage

I’m over it because my tolerance for stupidity is waining the older I get.

FaceBook — even more so than other social media platforms — is filled with fake bullshit. One right after another you’ll find some fake AI video clip that people share as factual. Most are so obvious… yet people believe what they see and share it like it’s their job. “Did you see the dog jump in the water to save the cat in the flood?” Followed by… “Did you see the video of Trump dancing on the grave of an unknown soldier?

Good grief, people!

Please note, making a joke isn’t the same as trying to pass off a fake as an original.

Y’all know I love bugging around with AI as much as anyone… but I don’t share any image or video clip that’s made-up with AI and try to tell you it’s real. Except for the 3 images below. They are for sure original images that have NOT been manipulated by any means including AI. 🙄

fake but funny

Now you know: Dolly Parton secretly coproduced Buffy the Vampire Slayer through her company, Sandollar Entertainment. As an easter egg, she and Buffy share the same birthday, which are on January 19.
