this or that: retirement edition

Mar 30, 2026

Retirement isn’t just about leaving work behind — it’s about stepping into a new chapter that reflects who you truly are. The choices you make say more than you might think.

Are you retired, almost retired, or just thinking about retirement?

I’m already retired and thrilled to live in a rural setting. It fits my lifestyle. I have plenty to do in the spring, summer, and fall. And there’s quite a bit to do even in the winter, but those things aren’t as enjoyable. I choose this. My favorite brother; however, chooses ‘that’ — city life with restaurants, neighbors, and warm weather (ok, so that’s one thing we agree on).

Whether your dream retirement includes grandkids, golf, travel, volunteering, or finally starting that passion project, every choice offers a glimpse into what fulfillment looks like for you.

The one thing that ties everyone’s lifestyle together is exercise — it’s always ‘that.’

Young or old — working or retired — you simply must keep moving. Right? I’ve had about a week now of riding the recumbent exercise bike daily… and shortening the time on the treadmill. So far, it’s working out just fine. Reading “experts” suggestions, they say to start without much tension — the main goal is to keep the MPH steady — and that’s what I’m trying.

Retirement isn’t one-size-fits-all — it’s personal, exciting, and uniquely yours. Even if you still have decades in the workforce, it never hurts to plan ahead.
