As an adult, when I get sleepy at night, I go to bed. (In the daytime, I fight off the ZzzZZz’s with coffee or a short walk outside.)
Coco lives every second in fear of missing something. She believes she has every right to stay awake just as long as the ‘big people’ do, and fights sleep worse than any kid I’ve ever seen. Her “I’m getting sleepy” behavior is so predictable.
First, she wants on Nana’s lap. That trickery lasts just long enough for her to soften me up to let her on the desk beside me. Then, she roots around through all the same stuff she rooted through the night before while she smiles and bats her lashes. She touches each object just long enough to get the required “no” answer until she will finally get to an item that is a “no” but isn’t such a big ole’ “no” that she can’t make it an “ok FINE”. (You have to pick your battles, you guys.)
The second she starts to put earbuds in her mouth, her Dad’s had enough and she’s off to bed. And that, my friends, is when I get the majority of my work done for the day. =)
