I’m still riding the fat chicks diet train and therefore, I notice pretty much everything that revolves around the quest to lose weight. I reached my WW goal and the app let me know all about it by congratulating me on reaching my peak!
I’m pretty sure autumn leaves are at their peak locally now too.
Because I was at goal, WW upgraded my daily food points so I had to bump it back 5 pounds to compensate for the 2 weeks left of our challenge. In the meantime, I’ve been seeing the WeGovy commercials that talk about weight loss and lowering your A1C (the measure of your average blood sugar level), but I had no clue how it differed… or was the same… as other drugs like Ozempic.
2 things I learned:
Ozempic, Wegovy, Trulicity, Mounjaro, and Victoza are all injectable drugs that mimic a hormone (GPL-1) that makes you feel full and slows down digestion.
Average weight loss when taking the injections once per week for 68 weeks is 20.9% of your total weight.
Without insurance, that’s over $16,000.00 you’ll spend to lose about 20% of your body weight over the time predicted to accomplish that goal.
You can find a ton of information online — including the risks and side effects. If you’re interested, you should do your own research and not listen to me… or anyone else… regurgitate the info.
Shots, pills, or even surgery isn’t cheating… it’s just doing whatever works for you.
If you need to lose weight — or even if you don’t — remember how important exercise is. Walk… and walk lots!
But don’t step on snakes. 😉
Mr. Pesky saved me from certain snake bite death. Time for me to make an eye appointment, for sure. I thought it was a stick and he was trying to scare me.
Now you know: Jimmy Carter promised to release all government UFO information if he became president. However, after being elected, he chose not to, citing “national security concerns.”
Mr. Farmer began harvesting my privacy fence yesterday. My momma is thrilled because she can now see US 31 from her little room on front of her barndo. I would be happy to keep the corn forever.
Mr. Farmer put so much work and effort into the ground this season and I hope it’s his best year yet. They sure hauled a lot of loads out of the field so that’s a good sign. It’s for certain we need to keep the farmers farming — they’re vital to national prosperity, food security, and sustainability efforts.
In addition, their work makes for beautiful photos from my place in Indiana. 🙂
They won’t be gleaning corn, for sure.
I remember as a kid, Scott and I had to help in the fields gleaning corn. Pap-pa would usually drive the old Ford tractor we had — pulling a wagon behind it while the family peons picked up the corn left in the fields that the combine missed.
I sure thought I was a big time farmer back then and enjoyed doing it. Scott… not so much. He was never a huge fan of any kind of physical work. He still isn’t.
Nothing left in this field to glean… and I don’t have horses, cows or pigs to feed it to even if there was.
Now you know: In 1967, the whiskey brand Canadian Club did a “Hide a Case” advertising campaign where they hid 25 cases of their whiskey in exotic locations around the world. There are still 9 cases still hidden with one being above the Artic Circle.
Mr. Pesky and I have started walking daily now that temps won’t melt your face off before 9:00 AM. Helping him navigate the Apple Health app to get the data from our evening exercise, I made mention of our walking speed. It was then I realized I didn’t know if our speed was good or bad.
A quick Google search and I found the answer in a great article that also contained a ton of other interesting information and data acquired from research over the years.
Of course, walking speed is based upon your age, weight, sex, and current fitness level. But for most healthy adults, the average walking speed is about 3mph. There was nothing mentioned about how taking a photo of scenery might impact speed.
Men walk faster than women and old people slow down.
Though the pace can vary between people, the article says a person should aim for about 100 steps per minute to achieve a brisk walk. That’s about 4.5 mph… and the article says you should aim for 30 minutes of that every day. Holy cow! I do 3.8 on the treadmill and it’s pretty darned close to a jog for me, y’all.
I’m certainly no expert, but I think it’s important to just walk at the speed and duration that works for you. If you’re pressing too hard or set unrealistic goals, you might get discouraged and quit — and any walking for exercise is 100% better than not doing it at all. Experience — and a back surgery over 10 years ago — has taught me that it’s also important to stand up and move every hour.
Weather permitting, get outside and take a stroll!
And… make sure to stop and take a photo every now and again. 🙂
Now you know: Half of pregnancies in giant pandas result in twins but the mother chooses the stronger cub and the other one is left to die of starvation.
Escorting Dharma off the deck the last few mornings has been brutal. Brrrr! But hang on because by Monday we’re supposed to be close to 80° again!
We’re hot tub ready!
Not sure why I thought it was a good idea to drain the hot tub and freshen the water right when Perry was complaining of back issues, but that’s exactly what I did. My face may be sad in the photo below, but the temp was a perfect 103° by 8:00 PM. It wasn’t that bad of an ooops… I’ve sure made worse.
Fall views are incoming slowly…
I’m seeing more color in the trees now, but still not a huge amount — just a random red tree here and a yellow one there. The biggest change here so far is the grass. It’s not all pretty green and it’s not growing like crazy anymore.
Fall foliage is expected to peak between October 21 and 28, so we should see some big changes in the next week or so. 🙂
Now you know: Al Pacino, who played Michael Corleone in The Godfather, grew up living with his grandparents, who immigrated from Corleone, Italy. His childhood nickname was Sonny.
So yesterday, I said it was the anniversary of our closing date on the barndo. I celebrated by…
Painting the deck!
Both Perry and Ben were doing other things so I celebrated the occasion alone. I thought I might need a crane to get out of bed this morning, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be. It was warm and windy outside yesterday… the perfect weather to paint and get it to dry quickly so the dogs weren’t stuck inside for long.
I still have the stairway and another deck upstairs to do — and the 2 decks in back to stain. I’m dreading the railing most on that project.
I prefer stain to paint for decking!
For the record, I wouldn’t be painting the decks if they hadn’t already been painted by the previous owners. Painted wood is HOT on feet — mine and the hounds. They also seem slicker in the wintertime. I’m not a fan.
Now you know: In direct sunlight, painted decks can feel significantly hotter to the touch, sometimes by as much as 20°F.
