ambivalent doesn’t mean you don’t care

Pew Research Center is a nonpartisan American think tank that provides information on social issues, public opinion, and demographic trends. They have a political typology quiz that will help you determine where you fall on a political scale. I took it and it determined my best fit as “Ambivalent Right.” Interesting… and not where I thought I would fall.

Ambivalent doesn’t mean you (or I in this case) don’t care — but that you (or I in this case) have mixed feelings.

That would be true. I admit I struggle between opposing courses of action on a whole lot of the issues we face in the world today. Curious about your best fit insofar your attitudes about topics related to personal identity? Take the Pew Research Center Quiz here.

On the issue of burgers cooked outside, I do NOT fall within the ambivalent anything category.

There’s nothing better than burgers on the Blackstone… except for filets. Or a good ribeye. Or a thick T-bone. Coming in after everything beef is Perry’s famous chicken and veggie stir fry. I’m looking forward to more of all of these in the coming days as temps warm up!

do democrats hate women?

do democrats hate women?

I support equal rights for women but I’m far from a radical feminist. I think IF a woman can do the same job as a man, she deserves the same pay. When I was in banking a whole bunch of years ago, the men doing the same job as I did simply made more money. I think that was wrong. On the other hand, giving a woman, or a minority, or anyone at all a job or position just because they check a diversity box? I think that’s wrong too.

It’s a fact that body composition differs between men and women. Duh.

If you’re a 6’5 dude and you do a year of hormone treatment and identify as a chick, you can competitively play center on a women’s basketball team. The whole sports thing with Lia Thomas? I don’t like it. According to one teammate, the other 35 swimmers on the team don’t like it either. Especially in the locker room where Lia’s biologically male genitalia is often exposed and she’s made it known she’s attracted to women.

I’m not saying I actively want to try to limit the lives of trans people — but I do think when biological males are included in women’s activities (or women’s/girl’s bathrooms, prisons, etc.) it isn’t in alignment with sex-based rights. It sure feels like women are being ignored.

There are some activities where women can absolutely be competitive when pitted against men.

Take daily steps for example. 😉

Thing is, that little victory isn’t going to make me a ton of money doing commercials. It’s not going to get me sponsorships for anything. We didn’t need a locker room.

So now what?

The US Selective Service still requires all males age 18-25 to register for the draft. US citizens or immigrants who are born male and changed their gender to female are still required to register. Individuals who are born female and changed their gender to male are not required to register.

Uh oh! Now what about that one? Please don’t alert Biden… that’ll be the next big thing on his agenda.

It’s 961 days until the 2024 presidential election. Just sayin’. 😏

carrot top and kid rock

carrot top and kid rock

After posting on politics (albeit lightly) recently, I was thinking about how sick and tired I got of the media constantly criticizing Trump. He could do nothing right. According to many, he still can’t — and I’m STILL stick and tired of it. Even now, his tax returns are this huge deal that taxpayers must throw good money after bad so the powers that be have access to them.

But thinking back… the media was all over Obama’s birth records, called him a socialist that “pals around with terrorists,” and he was labeled the “Antichrist.” And now, (besides still harping on Trump), the masses want Biden to undergo mental agility testing. I guess it’s American to beat up on the person elected to run the country.

And I guess we notice it more if we like the one being beat up. 🙂

Yesterday, Kid Rock released a new track to kick-off his ‘Bad Reputation’ tour (being called the “super-spreader tour” by one side of the political arena). The song is “We the People,” the lyrics are colorful (crude actually), and the message clear. At least I thought it was clear until I read the Rolling Stone’s scathing review.

If they want to say it’s “ear-bleeding,” I get that. But probably because I like the one being beat up, I disagree that Kid Rock was “kissing up to his MAGA daddy” regarding closing the borders to help prevent the COVID spread — it’s exactly how I perceived what happened:

“We gotta act quick, shut our borders down. Joe Biden does, the media embraces/Big Don does it and they call him a racist.”

I’m vaccinated and boosted. I don’t believe every single thing Kid Rock stands for or even everything he expresses in the lyrics of his latest track. Pink supports Biden and I still like her. Why does it seem everything today must be separated by a huge divide?

Mom has two kids… one is ‘Carrot Top’ and the other is ‘Kid Rock.’ It doesn’t mean we don’t agree on some things.

And finally, it’s 6° F out there this morning, kids. If Merida could talk, she’d be asking why she didn’t get a thick coat of hair like Dharma. Of course, I’d tell her to suck it up and be glad she has a nice warm house to live in. Not just a roof over her head either. She has a soft place to lie down in a warm patch of sunshine.

Merida isn't outside in the cold.

I will never be trending…

I will never be trending…

I read an article about what blogs to follow — what’s trending — what the majority of people care enough about to read. Mommy blogs are extremely successful but that’s certainly not me. Doggy blogs aren’t in great demand, but oh! If only they were!

Dharma - the star of the doggy blog

I could do a blog about design with tutorials on various Adobe products, or WordPress, or even Divi theme design, snippets of code, etc. No fun. And, there are so many with more technical knowledge than I.

What I do instead is just write about whatever I want to. I enjoy going back in time and being able to find things I thought were important enough to write about at the time. This site has been active now since 2008. It will never be trending or recommended to anyone and I’m good with that. 🙂

So having said all that, the only reference I’ve made to the US Capitol or Trump is about how social media is filled with vitriol and a bit about censorship. In 10 years, will I remember how I felt if I don’t record it here? Just to be sure, here’s a brief synopsis of what I think and I’m a-ok if you don’t agree.

I think Trump did some great things during his time as president and my views aligned with many of his. I have always believed Trump to be a bully. I’ve never defended his constant Tweets and would’ve loved for someone within his team to control him in that regard. I believe he was treated unfairly by the press throughout his term in office, and I believe the Democrats pursued him relentlessly. The press twisted his every comment and that caused him to be even more boastful and the viscous circle continued. So much disrespect!

While I believe the election was less than fair, it is over. Obama was my President, Trump was my President and Biden will be my President. I listened to the speeches by Trump and others before the march to the Capitol and believe he — and they — overstepped big time. I read the transcript of his call with the Georgia Senator and believe he overstepped big time there too.

TRUMP:
It’s my opinion that Trump should’ve let it go when his lawsuits failed in the courts. He should’ve congratulated the President-elect and said he gave it his best shot for the American people. He could’ve written a book and told us all things we weren’t privy to. And maybe, he could’ve ran again (or at least supported another candidate) in 4 years. At this second, (and I may change my mind), I think Pence should invoke the 25th. I can’t see how that could be worse than letting the Democrats move forward to do it.

DEMOCRATS:
Impeachment has been the Democrat’s goal… always. I’m sick of hearing it from the party and feel it breeds more division and more discord. Now that Nancy Pelosi won another term to lead the House of Representatives, we’re all stuck with her bitter face. Please keep her exposure to a minimum if what you truly desire is unity.

REPUBLICANS:
Continue to stand up for the issues you believe in and focus on a candidate that can beat Kamala in 2024. Work to improve the voting system and come back with a candidate that can be embraced. I’m one that will pray we make it through the next 4 years with as little debt and damage as possible.

Back to the regular ole’ doggy blog/generic thoughts tomorrow. 🙂

the way to become a World Champion of conspiracy theories

the way to become a World Champion of conspiracy theories

I know a whole bunch of people that are vying for the title ‘World Champion of Conspiracy Theories’! I’m starting to wonder if I’m in training for it myself. The more you read all that’s thrown at you, the closer you’ll be to that very goal.

Take for example the following post from Facebook:

Facebook post about censorship

Here’s the link that was shared that will take you to the US Holocaust Memorial Museum to read the article on Nazi propaganda and censorship.

Because the author of the above post mentioned the loss of thousands of Twitter followers, I checked our business account to see if we had lost any. I did it all in fun because I figured it was just an exaggerated number to make a point.

But no! We went from over 43,000 followers last week to 36,300 followers as of tonight.

And after that scary revelation, I closed out my browser window and I’m going to bed. My monitor’ background doesn’t make me think about censorship or COVID-19 or anything frightening. I’m going to turn over the conspiracy theory title to someone younger and stronger. I’m too tired and too old to worry about it.

my monitor background is not scary
