it’s crazy the things we notice sometimes…

I did an online grocery order this morning. I forgot 2 items and went back to add them to my already completed cart. Walmart then offers suggestions of other things I might want. Strawberries, bread, chicken, and eye liner? And that’s when I saw it! Did you know that cheap Walmart eyeliner is actually $748.00 an ounce? Woah!

As random humans, the crazy things we notice likely won’t be the same.

Because of a mix of psychological, social, and biological factors that shape how we perceive and prioritize the world around us, we don’t see things the same. It’s like everyone’s walking around with their own custom spotlight, illuminating a slightly different slice of reality.

Take this photo for example…

sleeping Hugo

I notice how Hugo looks like a baby insofar as the way he’s positioned while sleeping. Y’all probably see a dog stretched out taking a nap. 🙂

Can you think of one thing you notice that others might overlook?

Now you know: In 2008 a 20-year-old Belgium student died after reheating and eating leftover spaghetti that had been left out on the kitchen counter for five days. A bacteria called bacillus cereus was found to be the cause, which is an extreme type of food poisoning called “Fried Rice Syndrome”. 🤢

the one morning i could sleep… i couldn’t. ARG!

the one morning i could sleep… i couldn’t. ARG!

After I’d posted yesterday that there would be no 2:00 AM with the DST change, I couldn’t believe my eyes when my watch said it was 3:00 AM and I was still up. Brushing my teeth before crawling into bed is when I remembered DST had struck and there really WAS no 2:00 AM.

Because Ben had to work, it was my responsibility to get Coco to meet her Mom on time in Franklin. I barely woke up in time. I’m not a big sleeper and when I actually can sleep it’s wonderful. I’ve never been a morning person.

This morning, I was sleeping so good when I realized I had to get up or be late. No time for lingering cups of coffee to get my morning jump started! After that, everything has felt off all day.

The good news is — I wasn’t late!

I even sent a photo to Ben at work so he would know I safely delivered the precious cargo. He doesn’t care if I make it back home alive — his only concern is about his baby. 🙄

Did today — the 1st day of daylight savings time — feel “off” to you too?

Now you know: Warren Buffett loves Coke so much that he drinks about five cans a day. As a major shareholder, he once joked that a quarter of his body is made up of Coke.

sweet honesty — 100% not political

sweet honesty — 100% not political

I ran across a meme that showed a spray bottle of raspberry spritz and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. The accompanying text said, “what every girl smelled like in the 90s.

Just seeing that threw my brain into the way back machine…

The first bottle of perfume I ever owned was Sweet Honesty by Avon.

Mid 70’s and I’m not sure how long I begged before my Momma broke down and ordered a bottle for me. She was one of those Avon women. I remember the little order books laying around and the delivery of all the fancy men’s fragrance bottles shaped like cars, etc. I likely guilted her into the purchase.

Even back then, Sweet Honesty wasn’t all that expensive and everyone wore it. Nothing about being distinct or standing out back then — my goal was to smell exactly like everyone else. 🙂

Even though those currently around me the majority of the time don’t care what I smell like, I still like nice perfumes.

How about you? Do you remember the first fragrance that was your very own?

tuesday randomness on the verge of springtime

tuesday randomness on the verge of springtime

Today, I’ll be throwing out thoughts that form a totally random post about nothing. First…

It won’t be long until we spring forward here in Indiana.

Sunday, March 9th is the day we lose an hour to make time for more daylight in the summer evenings. While I hate daylight savings time, I am excited because it marks the beginning of spring — a fabulous time of year in the Hoosier state.

Did you know it was first implemented in the US in 1918 as a wartime measure — not the common misconception that it was created for farmers? And did you know that it’s overseen by the US Dept. of Transportation that cites energy reduction and reduced crime as the reasons for it sticking around?

Do you ever wonder how members of congress amass wealth on $174K a year?

Members of Congress earn a base salary of $174,000 per year, which hasn’t changed since 2009. While this is well above the average American income—around $57,000 in recent years—it’s not enough on its own to explain the multimillion-dollar net worths many lawmakers accumulate. Over half of Congress members are millionaires, with a median net worth exceeding $1 million, far outpacing the typical U.S. household’s $97,000.

Do you still Google for information?

I’ve talked about ChatGPT on multiple occasions here, but I’m currently giving Grok (X, formerly Twitter) a chance. I’ve tried Gemini (Google) and Azure (Microsoft), but I’ve not dived deeply into DeepSeek (China), Claude (Anthropic) or others. I’ve found that I can get a better explanation for things I want to know about — as well as answers to questions — by using AI platforms rather than a search engine that displays links to multiple websites.

Right now, 10-20% of people opt for AI over Google for info searches, and it’s trending upward. Google is still the “go to,” handling over 8.5 billion searches per day which is about 90% of global search traffic.

If I had more time and more money, I’d be on polymarket all the time.

Polymarket is an American cryptocurrency-based prediction market, headquartered in Manhattan, New York City.  It’s the world’s largest prediction market, allowing you to stay informed and profit from your knowledge by betting on future events. From sports to politics — and everything in between — I can see how it could become addictive.

Now you know: In 2006 thieves in Buenos Aires tunneled underneath a bank & entered its vault. After a 7-hour standoff with 23 hostages, authorities entered to find $20m missing, a row of toy guns, & a note that said “In a neighborhood of rich people, without weapons or grudges, it’s just money, not love.”

combovers are back in style if you’re in junior high

combovers are back in style if you’re in junior high

Coco had a major case of bed head this morning as she was enjoying breakfast here at the barndo. I asked her what the deal was with combing her hair across her forehead pulling strands from the side of her head. She said, “because it looks cool!

I let her know it looks like a combover.

coco has a combover

I’m also not a fan of the chokers kids wear now — like the one Coco has on in the photo above. Not really fair since I wore chokers made with teeny tiny beads when I was her age. My Nanny probably didn’t like that fashion statement any better than I like the current one.

I’m sure all this means is that I’m older than dirt.

The longer you live the more you see styles repeat themselves. In high school, I wore hip-hugger bell bottoms and I’ve seen those come around a time or two since then. High waisted Mom jeans are around now and they were also popular when Ben was young. Yes, I wore those too. Mini skirts and ankle boots… converse high tops… I could go on and on.

How many styles can you name that were once popular and have repeated in popularity more than once?
