Six more weeks of yuck?

Six more weeks of yuck?

Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow yesterday. The big turd has declared we’re going to have six more weeks of winter.

Good ole’ Phil has been predicting the weather since 1886. But… the Stormfax Almanac and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says he only has a 40% success rate over the past 10 years. Maybe if he improved his accuracy percentage, he might actually get a REAL holiday named for his efforts.

TIL (Today I Learned): Operation Babylift was a US-led evacuation of children from Vietnam during the Vietnam War for adoption in America, Canada, Australia, and Europe. The very first flight crashed shortly after takeoff and killed 78 children.

a lazy weekend except for the short order cook

a lazy weekend except for the short order cook

After a pretty busy week, this weekend has been a lazy, ‘do-nothing’ one so far. Nothing much going on except some major couch time.

sleepy Dharma

The only downfall to weekends is that I sometimes feel like a short order cook. By the look on Coco’s face, I must not be a very good one. 😉

Football and tacos tomorrow…

Tomorrow, Perry’s Bengals play and it’s doubtful he’ll even sleep tonight. I’ll be doing food prep (surprise, surprise!) and also clean-up. I don’t really care who wins between the 49ers and Eagles, but I do hope the Bengals win over the Chiefs. If San Francisco wins, it will be the 3rd time the Bengals have had them in the playoffs. (At least that’s what I think Mr. I Love My Bengals said.)

TIL (Today I Learned): Chile and Argentina have a greater percentage white population than that of Canada and the U.S.

2 distinct ways to salvage a bad morning

2 distinct ways to salvage a bad morning

My morning started at 6:15 AM after a bedtime of 2:35 AM. Bad enough standing on its own, the reason I was moving so early this morning is because my alarm was a retching dog. I love Dharma, but her habit of eating turdscicles is one I’ve tried to break for going on 8 years now.

Your day had to start out better than that! Didn’t it?

The day is still worth salvaging… I think. I did two distinct things to get my day turned around.

ONE: I stepped back a few moments to enjoy my surroundings and took a photo of the sunrise while preparing an amazing cup of coffee with a shot of espresso.

TWO: I treated myself for being alive this morning no matter the circumstances.

nutella biscuits

Perry rolled in with two bags of these new and amazing taste creations. If you haven’t tried them yet… do it now. Ohmygosh!

BONUS: The blizzardish forecast has been downgraded to just crappy weather for the Ville. Some snow… some wind… but we’re not to have a repeat of 1978.

And just like that… today is looking up!

I still have plenty of Nutella biscuits for anything the universe hits me with today — and no matter how bad it gets, at least I’m not a bear…

TIL (Today I Learned): When bears hibernate, they “hold it in” for almost half a year. This is due to a fecal plug that forms in their lower intestine that prevents them from pooping while hibernating.

there’s a good reason to snag some lottery tickets

there’s a good reason to snag some lottery tickets

I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to luck, I’m middle of the road. Sometimes I have great luck (like the time in Vegas when I walked out with $10K) — and sometimes I have awful luck (insert preferred ex-husband name here). 🙂

But my luck is about to change and I have proof!

2 double-yolk eggs

One egg with a double yolk is nothing but coincidence. TWO eggs with double yolks at the same time is a SIGN, you guys.

“No Professor Doom gonna stand in my way. Mm, I feel lucky today.”

TIL (Today I Learned): Lawn Darts (or Jarts) were banned in the United States due to injuries and even the deaths of children. The yard game was based on the Roman plumbata, a weapon of war.

Although I posted the photo below on shelleyerwin.com, I wanted to also share it here. So many vibrant colors!

sunset in the Ville

The forecast for the upcoming week is bleak. Cold and then colder. The only bright spot is there’s a chance for flurries. Even though I probably won’t get outside on the deck to take a photo when it’s 2 degrees, I’ll still be able to see the horizon out of windows.

That alone is worth the move. This view is 100 times better than what I’ve been able to see over the past 10-years.

TIL (Today I Learned): In 2011 a Russian would-be suicide bomber died when her mobile phone detonator was activated by a spam message wishing her a happy new year.
