When you’re an Indiana resident, you know about how crazy the weather can be. It’s not everywhere you can see 17 degrees on the thermometer while listening to a forecast calling for thunderstorms. I saw posts on Facebook stating the BLIZZARD OF 1978 (that I remember vividly) was during this same timeframe and that simply isn’t true. That big ole’ blizzard was near the end of January. I barely lived through that one. Mom and I were stranded together. Alone.
This small — but first — snow of the season was just fine until the wind began to blow and the temperatures plummeted. There was; however, a window of opportunity for just a little bit of fun…

As if the youth of Jackson and surrounding counties can afford to stay home from school even more days, we’re at the beginning of yet another 2014 wintery mix. So far here in Seymour we’ve had rain, freezing rain and a sleet. From what I understand, this wintery blast is to last through tomorrow morning dumping several inches of snow on top of the ice we already have before clearing out. Almost half of MPG is waiting out this weather in Cancun and the pesky neighbors are enjoying sunshine in Florida. Me? I’m feeling a little sorry for myself this morning.

And here we go again with something besides more snow, but equally as frustrating… You might’ve noticed that whatifitdid.com has been slow to load at different intervals over the past couple weeks. I’ve noticed it; I’ve noticed emails are sporadically received; and I’ve gotten several support ticket notifications from the company that manages the server we own. The latest reads, “A massive targeted attack against a customer caused saturation of multiple egress paths within an upstream core network. Our upstream provider has confirmed that they have mitigated the attack and that traffic has returned to normal levels and all services have restored.”
I’m hoping that we aren’t the attacked customer, and I’m hoping that this up/down thing is figured out soon. Just like the snow… it’s getting old.

The office has gotten incredibly busy — my mobility is non-existent. While that might’ve translated into a more regular schedule of posts here, it didn’t. Instead, any free time away from work (always performed in front of the computer) was spent in any manner that got me away from the computer.
This past week can be summed up in one simple photograph:

Winter Tip:
Bald dudes should wear a hat when shoveling snow.

Ok, so I walk from the bedroom to the kitchen for coffee and then down the hall to the office. But it’s uphill both ways, you guys! I do really feel sorry for those who must drive to work when it’s snowing like it is today — I feel even worse for those who work 3rd shift and walk out prepared for a drive home (usually when it’s still dark) and find these conditions. It’s 12 degrees right now and the wind is howling… blowing the powdery white stuff into drifts that cover up any previous attempts to clear a path. Nothing deep — just bitter cold with blowing snow thrown in for good measure. Well played, Mother Nature.

Even for this girl that loves snow… I’ve had enough already. About the only thing to do (after business hours, of course) is to work on this undertaking that entails filling up a glass container. (In case you’re wondering, I didn’t just start the project yesterday.)

Since I’m under the weather I’ve beens spending some quality time with an old friend. NyQuil. Sinex has undergone some major changes insofar as ‘looks’ (packaging), but she’s here too. Snowing again, tracks in the road are quickly covered as the predicted 3 more inches falls softly.

But I don’t care! I have no place to go and wouldn’t feel like getting there if I did anyway. The iPad is charged and I’m ready to begin reading one of the many books I’ve purchased over the past couple months and haven’t made time to read.
Here’s to quiet weekends on the couch with good friends…
