the many seasons coming at Indiana this week

the many seasons coming at Indiana this week

Within the last 7 days, we’ve had summer heat that led to spring storms. Today we’re hosting winter. Tomorrow — April Fools Day — will not quite be 55° and I’m going to TRY to mow. The following day will be summer with the high around 80°, and then we’ll usher in spring again with the potential of strong storms (no tornados please) by late afternoon/evening.

We’re seeing at least a little green popping up…

spring making some green

Right before the strong storm we experienced a couple nights ago, I looked toward the Pesky Neighbor’s abode and noticed how pretty it was framed by a blooming pear tree in white, accompanied by a redbud tree. Even though spring can be brutal, it’s also beautiful.

It was 70 here yesterday and will be in the 20s tonight. This weather is driving me nuts.

While some complain, others just wait to see what season we’ll get next…

brains function improperly in the dark

brains function improperly in the dark

Last Sunday, Ben had to work and I drove Colette north in rain and storms. Here we are… Sunday again… and it was a repeat. I missed my buddy, Alisa’s, birthday bash and I sure hated that too. Here’s hoping it made turning ::cough:: 45 years old ::cough:: easier just knowing so many (especially her #1 son), know she’s amazing.

And to think, it wasn’t that many years ago that she felt she had to wear her name on her shirt and initials on her glasses just so people knew she existed. 😉

Alisa birthday

Power is finally on!

This evening’s storm brought a power outage that lasted for about 3 grueling hours. It’s funny how your brain operates when you’re so used to having electricity, computers, and the Internet. I had candles lit everywhere and after chatting with Perry in the dark, I became bored in about 30-minutes.

My brain in the dark ran through a bajillion activities I COULD do. Thing is… every single one of them required either electric or internet… or both. Der!

Now you know: Ancient Athens had a system called ostracism, where citizens could vote to exile someone for 10 years without a trial, often used against powerful or controversial figures to protect democracy.

being a nana is risky business

being a nana is risky business

I drove Coco to meet her Mom yesterday and it poured rain on us the entire trip. I don’t know about you, but I HATE driving in the rain.

Traffic was much worse on the way north than it was on my way back home. The way there I was either driving 45 mph or 75 mph. Some drivers forget how much wet blowback they’re going to get when they move to the showoff lane to pass a semi. They just dart out there in front of other cars only to brake once they get there. ARG!

Driving in the rain is dangerous! ☠️

Did you know over 1 million crashes annually are tied to wet weather, with about 4,700 fatalities and 384,000 injuries? A study from the American Meteorological Society found that crash risk doubles during rainy conditions compared to clear weather. Still… there I was… wearing my Queen Nana crown… hauling precious cargo like a boss.

Me & Coco

For the record, Coco’s wearing a hat not because it’s all that cold on this spring day, but because she got a haircut she hates.

Same thing happened to me once — I went for a haircut wanting the hair over my ears evened up with the rest of the layers I already had. The beautician heard “trim over ears” to mean shave the sides like a man’s haircut! My buddy, Alisa, took a photo of me with toddler Ben during that time and I still have it. Still to this day when I look at it, all I see are my ears.

Now you know: In 2012 as a man was cleaning out his great-aunt’s home after she died, he found 345 well-preserved comic books in a closet, including Detective Comics No. 27 (first appearance of Batman), Action Comics No. 1 (first appearance of Superman) & Batman No. 1. In total. the collection sold for $3.5m.

why spark should buy out UPS

why spark should buy out UPS

Over the past several years, not one time has a Walmart Spark delivery driver taken my groceries to the wrong house. Not once! No matter if I lived in Seymour or here on the outskirts of the Ville, my grocery deliveries have arrived at my door. On the other hand, UPS can’t seem to find me…

My deliveries go to the wrong address probably 90% of the time. And it’s random which neighbor they choose to give my orders to. I’ve complained more than once… and again this time. The thing is — they absolutely know I live here because I sometimes get packages that belong to random neighbors too.

Another birthday in the books and life keeps moving forward.

I had a wonderful birthday a couple days ago, and no, I don’t FEEL any older. I felt 100 before the 17th, and I feel 100 now. 🙂

Yesterday was a severe weather event day…

After horrible storms last night, the temp has dropped about 40° here at the barndo. Still windy with a bit of rain and a snowflake thrown in now and again, I’m thinking how grateful I am to have dodged the weather bullet once again. Our power stayed on, (unlike that of Perry’s Mom in Rising Sun, IN), and we’re not having a snow storm today (like my brother & sister-in-law in Fort Wayne, IN).

My friend, Julie, headed into Columbus, IN, this morning for grandparents day. She took the photo below as she was driving…

still winter and it feels like it today

still winter and it feels like it today

Windy and MUCH cooler, it actually feels like winter today. Hugo was watching for the sun, but even after multiple tries he never once saw it.

Hugo is sun searching

My windows are closed again.

With cooler temps back in southern Indiana, I had to close the windows so there’s no more fresh air circulating in the barndo. According to a Purdue study, I’m likely risking my health because of fragrance air pollution.

I love candles and wax melts, often use cleaning products and scented sprays, and like most women, I also use beauty products. Those are all included in the chemical products that can trigger or intensify symptoms of allergies, headaches and cardiovascular disease.

What to do when it’s cold outside?

If you can’t improve ventilation and air filtration — and you still want fragrance while using unscented products — they suggest using flowers, pine cones, eucalyptus, and try your hand with a simmer pot. All those things sure sound like a lot of work to me… and I figure the windows will be open again very soon.

Do you worry about fragrance air pollution in your home?

If so, what are you doing — or are you willing to do — to combat it?

Now you know: Prior to the Reagan era trickle down economics was called Horse and Sparrow Theory, as in feed the horse lots of oats and the sparrows get to pick it out of their poop.
