rain brings pirates out of the sea and into fields

rain brings pirates out of the sea and into fields

Soft rain this morning at Barndo USA. I can’t work outside — that’s good and bad news. Mr. Farmer sprayed the fields yesterday and I’m sure he’ll begin to work the ground soon. I’m guessing beans this year although I prefer corn.

When you can’t do what you planned (weed eat and mow), you instead shop online and leverage AI to create images that make you laugh. Like the photo below for example…

Keeping with the pirate theme, neither Perry nor I look right, but fun just the same.

If you’re home and it’s a rainy day, how do you spend your time?

I know there are more productive things I could be doing, and I will do right after I finish my 2nd cup of coffee. But in the meantime, ChatGPT is way too much fun. Give it a whirl… it’s free.

In regard to online shopping to pass a rainy day, Wyze cameras are on sale on Amazon with next day delivery. They work GREAT and they’re cheap too!

Now you know: Jazz musician, Fats Waller, was kidnapped by 4 men and “given” to Al Capone as a birthday gift. He performed for 3 days and was found drunk with thousands of dollars in cash stuffed in his pockets.

keep your face toward the sunshine

keep your face toward the sunshine

Over 80° today and sunny… it’s PERFECT! Knowing summer is coming makes me happy. Sunshine makes for a happy puppy too. 🙂

Trying to wash windows is nearly impossible with that puppy above. He was licking the windows as I was trying to clean them. Still, we got a whole lot accomplished inside and outside today, and I’ve even had a shower and have a load of clothes in the washer.

Take good days when you get them.

I hear hummingbirds have been spotted in Brown County so I’m getting my feeder hung today. Don’t want those lil’ guys going to dine at the Pesky Neighbor’s house.

Now you know: In ancient Rome, some statues were designed with removable heads, so the same body could represent different people. This clever approach was especially useful when a new emperor came to power and needed to replace the image of a disgraced or rival predecessor.

so much going on – so little to talk about

so much going on – so little to talk about

I know… I know… I’ve been sporadic here of late. There’s so much going on, but it’s really nothing I care to talk about. Everything is either boring or sad. For example, I finally replaced my HUGE monitor. Not earth shattering, right?

Easter weekend is almost here.

Betty McKain passed away on 4/6/25. She was married to Dad for 12 years when he passed in 2004 (her obituary is wrong — the date it says she married Dad is the day he died — obviously, that didn’t happen). She sure was good to Dad. Her graveside service is this weekend and I hope for peace. Her sons are enemies that I hope can put aside their anger for just a short time.

Easter dinner this year (every year) is my responsibility.

I got eggs but have so far failed on the ham purchase. I’m making Easter dinner here and although buying eggs was a breeze, there wasn’t a ham to be had. Not sure yet how I’ll rectify that problem. Ham hunting commences tomorrow. 🙂

Plants are back inside again.

My plants don’t know where their home is right now. It’s warm enough for them outside… until it isn’t. Back inside again tonight (not sure if it was necessary, but I wanted to be cautious) — since it didn’t warm up that much today. Here we are mid-April and I hope the May flowers hurry up and bloom. It’s for sure we’ve had plenty of April showers.

Now you know: A group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance.”

Working on the other side of the speaking industry — hiring speakers as opposed to booking one — is a learning experience. No matter what it is you do, the way others in your business handle business can be eye opening. I’ve learned to calmly say, “I’m not comfortable with that,” and “I’ll let you know when I decide.” Ah yes… I’ve repeated those lines 100 thousand times in the past couple weeks.

Set clear boundaries.

My biggest takeaway so far is to not over-explain. Too much justification invites more push. I’ve learned to stay calm and keep my tone steady and neutral — which is the total opposite when I’m on the other side of this business. It’s like flipping a switch from helpful (NOT PUSHY) and passionate me — to dry and calculating (not letting pressure dictate my responses) me.

Even Hugo doesn’t know which “ME” is going to show up next. 🙂

Hugo loves all versions of me

The rain is over for now… finally…

Roads are flooded about everywhere locally from all the crazy rain we’ve had this past week and weekend. Mr. Pesky said he measured just over 7″ in his rain gauge even after he took it inside before the predicted hail. My friend, Julie, said she had right at 8.5″ in Scipio — about 25 miles from the barndo.

No matter the measurement… there are flood alerts everywhere and my yard looks like a mud pie. So do my floors with 3 dogs. 🥴

Now you know: When Carrie Fisher told Harrison Ford she was going to publish her journals & reveal they had an affair (Ford was married) while filming Star Wars (1977), Ford raised his finger & said “Lawyer!” Fisher said he could read it beforehand & take anything out. She sent it to him but never heard back.

gearing up for the flood of the century

gearing up for the flood of the century

Last night, I listened to Marc Weinberg, Chief Meteorologist at WDRB, talk about his forecast for today. I’m glad we got the first yard mowing of the season in the books because aside from the storms and wind, we’re supposed to get what he called “record breaking rainfall.”

first mow of the year

Ole’ Marc rambled on about flooding for the last 20 minutes of his Facebook live video — saying it will likely claim lives and to never, EVER, drive through water on the roadway. I hear ya, Marc!

Oura Ring’s last quarter summary does not include mowing or weedeating.

Oura Ring tabulates daily data and supplies users with a quarterly summary. Of course, this last quarter didn’t have any of my mowing or weed eating activities to record. I figure it will be fun to compare this summary with the results tabulated 3 months from now.

It looks like I stay up too late, and I take just over 1 nap a week. Oura says those naps are good for me so I think I’ll take more of them. 🙂

My steps are WAY down this quarter. Who wants to exercise when it’s freaking freezing outside? Obviously, not me.

Here’s hoping tonight’s storms pass us by, the wind is light, and the rain is slight.

No matter where you are in the world, I hope that all severe weather passes by you quietly. ⛈️

Now you know: A boy, Martin Pistorius, was trapped in his own body for 12 years, fully conscious but unable to move or speak. Doctors thought he was in a vegetative state, but he later regained the ability to communicate and wrote a book (Ghost Boy) about his experience.
