what is your opinion on nuclear power?

Mar 22, 2011

Many in Japan are struggling to survive. The tsunami-ravaged country is certainly making headlines, and many cling to every little bit of news as it unfolds insofar as the nuclear reactors at the stricken plant. I readily admit, I’m one of those people.

Growing up in the 70’s, it was something we were taught to fear I think. What I remember best is the “Russia is going to launch a nuclear bomb any second and melt your face off” talk. The movie ‘Threads‘ came out in 1984, and that didn’t give anyone a warm and fuzzy feeling either. So now, the mere thought of anything nuclear is scary to me — and I’m not the only one.

I’m also not the most trusting person of any government. How much do you believe that is being reported?

So I found this article of statistical data and created the photo on the left from here that shows the death rate per watts produced for 4 types of energy sources. I guess it made me feel a little more secure. If you can believe statistical data. And who reports it. I figure if it makes me feel better, it’s gotta’ be true.

I’m 100% positive that my coffee is radioactive-free. Probably.
