Closure. We all want it in some form or another, so in this post I’m going to tie up some lose ends.
Yes, it’s true that 450 bajillion wasps lost their lives in the burg last night. A wasp’s life span is normally 40 days, and their diet consists of eating already dead stuff along with honey from bees and fruit from plants. I figure that this one act most likely will have a dramatic and positive effect on the ecosystem within the burg for months to come. You may thank Dr. Carl M. Death.
No. Libby is still not accepting her fluffy white bed that the puppies used for a potty. Febreeze, sunshine and even Tide will not convince her that it’s clean and free of puppy stench. Should a funeral for the bed become a scheduled event, I will let you know.
We finally completed and sent out the Scott McKain’s UCEzine that was due today. After struggling with a topic to write about, Perry and I brainstormed until we painfully rolled out our article contribution. Check out the Scott McKain UCEzine for August 15th — you know you want to!
We are looking forward to a relaxing weekend and hope that you enjoy yours as well!

I’m standing in the shower and Libby is barking like crazy. My housecleaners come on Thursday mornings (Mom and Carl), but they have a key. I figure it’s them, Perry isn’t in the office yet, and the brown hound will stop barking soon. But no! She’s still going at it as I get out of the shower, get dressed and head to find out what the big issue is. I see Carl sitting on the side of the pool, one leg in the water. Hmmmm…
His story was that he was putting chlorine tabs in the pool skimmer (like all good housecleaners do), when he was attacked and stung several times. Mom’s story was that she looked around and he was doing some major hopping and moving like a flash around the backside of the pool. I figure they were both telling the truth.

Not the best photo in the world, I know. You didn’t expect me to really get close, did ya? Take a good look at the lil’ darlings in the photo above. It’s the last time you’ll see them alive. When it gets dark tonight, we’ll be having a wasp funeral. They should’ve known better to build their home on a pool, and they should’ve known better than to sting Dr. Death.

This whole wayback thing is getting old – even for me. But still, I couldn’t resist adding one last oldie-but-goodie photo. Taken on a glass-bottomed boat in Silver Springs at least 100 years ago (ok, maybe not that long…but close), I’m the only one in my family not facing the camera. Look to the right near the center and you’ll see a handsome older guy with a crewcut and a neck tie — my Grandfather. He passed away in 1982. Going farther right, that’s the back of my head, and to the right of me is my Grandmother. The chick in the retro glasses and headscarf is my Mom (Mom always wore a headscarf — what’s up with that??), then my brother, Scott, and Dad is the dude wearing a big, dark set of eyebrows.
I’ve been to Florida who knows how many times since then, but I’ve passed the glass-bottomed boat experience since this shot was taken. I don’t remember if I ever went to Disney World as a kid. I’ve been there plenty of times since adulthood and LOVE riding the rides and such. Still, the memory of the glass-bottomed boat, along with Wikki-Wachee (where a REAL mermaid ate a banana under water!!) are two of my most vivid family vacation memories. The other was from a trip out west where I met an honest to goodness ‘injun named ‘Salem’ who smoked Winston cigarettes.

I am officially no longer the owner/operator of a school bus. The Crothersville School Board approved the assignment of my route to a friend of mine, and what I’ve done for over 22 years never got so much as a thank you from one of them at the board meeting on last Monday night. For all the things that have happened in the past that I didn’t agree with that involved the school Superintendent, Dr. Terry Goodin — he was the ONLY one that shook my hand, and thanked me for my years of service to the school and the students. I will remember his words, “You were a good bus driver.”
You betcha I was.
I will absolutely miss the kids — but there’s nothing else that I will miss. Call me before 9:00am and I promise to be grumpy, coz’ I don’t have to set my alarm for 5:30 am anymore. Go me!

COOL:
Cool is another item pulled fresh out of the wayback machine! Especially when it’s a photo of your only son (now that’s pretty darned cool all by itself), taken over 25 years ago. What could make it even better? If he’s being held by your now 97 year-old grandmother. See that smile and look of admiration? She still gets that today when she looks at him.
UNCOOL:
It’s uncool if you’re a dog and your owner has a friend with puppies. It’s even worse when these puppies play in your bed and then go #1 in it. If you have any questions about THAT revelation, just ask Libby. She’s disowned her new fluffy bed and has been laying on a rug in the bathroom that adjoins the office. The bed is in the washing machine now (even though it’s been soaked with Febreeze a bajillion times already), and I’m hoping that Tide will not only wash away the smell of those bad hound dogs, but will also cleanse her of the memory of them even being here.
