practice Christmas

Dec 5, 2011

Sunday was a cold, rainy day in the Ville — almost exactly like it is today. Plans to drive an hour just to eat and visit with my favorite son and his family didn’t seem as appealing as an afternoon on the couch with a book I’ve had for 2 weeks and not had time to begin. He suggested he drive here instead, and have an early Christmas. After much negotiation, we decided upon a “practice” Christmas with everyone opening one gift only.

Turns out — we had the BEST TIME EVER, and the practice event went so well that we believe we are ready for the real thing… AND, we plan to make it a family tradition. Rather than opening all gifts with everyone from the family present, the intimate holiday was simply perfect.

What made practice Christmas even better?
The email that was waiting in my inbox this morning. In part, it read:
“Hooray for Early Xmas! Hooray for the great hero, Shelley Erwin, who stood against those who seek to soil the name of Early Xmas — the greatest of all holidays! We had a great time and are really enjoying the gifts. Thanks, Mom!”
