advertising on social media sites

Oct 19, 2012

I hate the ads on Facebook. I hate even more that users have to be knowledgeable enough to click buttons so they don’t appear in ads to friends instead of the other way around. I’ve never clicked on a single ad offered there. Those ad endorsements are FAKE, you guys.

When companies provide a product or service so fascinating that their customers/clients talk about it with their friends, they get FREE social media advertising. (If they follow-up with a poor customer experience they get exposure then too — but what a major backfire.) For example… a couple years back I purchased a candle at the Madison Chautauqua. It was awesome but no one around here that I know of carries that brand. Because it’s so easy to grab a Wood Wick candle at Cracker Barrel, I had pretty much forgotten all about purchasing another candle from that specific company.

Glancing through Facebook posts before bed, I see that a friend ‘liked’ a page that sparked a memory. The Candleberry Company!!

I remember you!

Online ordering is simple through Candleberry — and get this, you guys — Roger, the best UPS driver evah, rolled in the driveway with my package THE VERY NEXT DAY!

So Candleberry will never know that my purchase was because of Facebook. If you order one of their freaking amazing candles after reading this, they will have no clue that yet another sale came ultimately because of Facebook. But did it really? Here’s the big thang… if they didn’t provide that superior product and back it up with a great customer experience, no one would be talking positively about them in the first place, and no amount of ads placed through social media would grow their business.

Buy one of these candles right now. You can thank me later. =)

The Candleberry Company is located in Frankfort, KY. I recommend the scents: Hot Maple Toddy, Bourbon Maple Sauce & Santa’s Cookies.
