There are so many functions and options on my new Samsung Galaxy 4 Classic watch I’ve yet to try, but at the end of day one I was pretty happy.
Style.
When I look at the Samsung watch it seems BIG compared to the Apple watch. Both are the “girlie” size — the smallest size offered for both brands. But side by side, I guess the Samsung isn’t all that much bigger after all. I love the style of the Samsung — but I still love the style of the Apple watch too. While different, I like the look of each one about the same.
Battery Life & Price.
Battery… Both the Samsung and the Apple watch are suckers of battery life. The charge life is about the same and the time to charge is also about the same. Fitbit has them beat BIG TIME when it comes to how long you can go between charges. Around 24-hours is the best you can hope for on either the Apple or the Samsung.
Cost… My Series 5 Apple watch is more expensive refurbished (on the Apple site) than the newest version of the Samsung watch. Samsung will give me $185 for the Apple watch as a trade-in (without the $100 silver Milanese loop band), and if none of my friends want it at that price, I’ll trade it when I get Ben or Perry one of these. I sold my last Apple watch to a classmate on Facebook within about 15-minutes.
First blush on pros and cons.
- I like that the Apple watch lets me have a number of faces that I can swipe and change. The Samsung doesn’t do that — you have to change the face within your phone app. (For example, if I want to know the battery life remaining, I can’t just swap to Face #2 where that’s a widget like I can on the Apple watch.)
- Faces on the Apple watch are more customizable, but Samsung has more options to choose from.
- I like that ‘daily steps taken’ are so easy to access on the Samsung watch — Apple focuses more on energy/calories expended. (Because my heart rate doesn’t go up a whole lot during exercise, Apple thinks I’m a slacker.)
- Samsung’s sleep details are really, really good. Apple’s sleep stats require another app to get the same info. I could do away with the Oura ring and still have everything I need with the Samsung.
It boils down to iPhone or Android.
At the end of the day, if you’re an iPhone person the Apple watch is the best option — and if you’re Android, the Samsung Galaxy is really nice. Of course, the Fitbit will work with either and will still get the job done… expect for style — it’s really lacking in that department.
I like to eat.
And because I care about my activity insofar as the health benefits and not weight loss, here’s what I had for breakfast. 😉
The one in the back without the pico degallo was for the puppies — they don’t care about being skinny either.
TIL (Today I Learned): An average of 2 amputations occur weekly at US meatpacking plants. (Wow! Guess my family was lucky not to contribute to that average.)
