election day may mark the last nice day for a while

Nov 3, 2026

Today is election day. It’s also the day before my favorite brother’s birthday, and likely the last really nice day we’re going to see for a while.

Temps to reach almost 80°!

My favorite brother could care less what the temps are in Indiana today because he’s in LA to celebrate his birthday. I’m not sure why birthdays are so important to him and not important to me. We were raised in the same household, after all. Growing up, we had wonderful Christmases and really shitty birthdays (sorry, Mom). But for the last 50 years, my brother thinks he should have a band, fireworks, and a vacation to celebrate. 🙄

When the Learjet crashed in Florida, Scott had a flight scheduled the same day from Indy to LA.

While I won’t share our entire text exchange, I will tell you that he was traumatized by his flight. He had walked from row 15 all the way to the back of the plane to use the restroom when they hit “unreal turbulence.”

As he came out to go to his seat, the flight attendant told him to get back in the restroom and hang on. He said people were screaming and stuff was flying around. He sat on the toilet seat for 20 minutes through the “wildly turbulent” event while his Fitbit warned that his heart rate was too high.

He said: Oh the other funny thing — this was the first Delta flight I’d ever been on when the flushing of the toilet was motion activated. So I’m being thrown around all over the place in the bathroom, holding on the handles as hard as I can. Meanwhile, every time I got bounced, the toilet flushed with that loud sucking sound it makes on a plane. 😂

I’m just hanging out here at home, enjoying a quiet — and non-turbulent — breakfast…

Breakfast outside on the deck on a warm fall day rates higher than fireworks or a band marching in my honor.

I hope I can enjoy my birthday doing the exact same thing on a warm spring day in mid-March. No LA trip for me.
