facebook keeps showing me fat people ads

Jun 25, 2026

I typically take notice when I gain a few pounds and I’m currently watching what I eat a little more than normal. It has a more to do with my wonky back and inability to exercise as much right now, and less about how much I’m eating.

Hugo’s goal is to keep me on the couch… so far he’s doing a great job.

Hugo wants me on the couch

In the meantime, Facebook wants me to see people that weigh over 600 pounds.

I don’t know what series it’s from, but this doctor (that barely speaks English) puts these huge bodies on a diet to get below 600 pounds before weight loss surgery.

Why am I talking about this?

Because these huge people are put on 1200 calorie a day diets! You guys… 1200 calories isn’t much food. It might sound like a lot, but it’s really not much… especially for these people that are used to consuming 30 times that many. This doctor expects to see 50 pounds gone in a month.

Be thrilled if you don’t have to worry about your weight.

Some people (stats show it’s less than 5% of people in the US) just don’t have to worry about their weight at all. Stats also show that about 74% of adults in the US are overweight or have obesity (BMI ≥25).

I just think it’s a good thing I’m not on Facebook often anymore — less time there and the fewer 600 pound bodies my eyes are subjected to.

Now you know: Research shows: 20–40% of a person’s tendency toward body weight is influenced by lifestyle and environment, while 40–70% is influenced by genetics.
