always start new projects on monday

Aug 11, 2026

No matter what it is I’m about to tackle — a house project, exercise regimen, or diet — I always start on a Monday. Yesterday was the “new day & new me” start date…

Starting at 2:00 AM, nothing went as planned and it was all dog related:

3 doggos

  • At 2:00 AM, Hugo, the dog that is NEVER ready to get out of bed when I am, wanted outside. In my most authoritative voice, I told him to get up in bed and hush. He did.
  • I couldn’t fall back asleep and saw 4:00 AM on my Apple Watch. Then it ran out of battery and promptly died.
  • At 5:00 AM, Merida’s tail of steel was beating the walls as she pranced around with her favorite toy. It’s her game with the dumb dogs… she does all the stuff that gets them to do her bidding… and watches as they get in trouble. I gave up and got up.
  • By 5:30 AM, I had my first cup of coffee and my wearable devices on charge.
  • I fell asleep on the couch at some point and was awakened by a dog puking at 7:15 AM. It was Dharma… she ate something (probably dog poop) that she deposited in a huge pile on the floor.
  • Once cleaned up, Merida was ready to go outside again. ARG!

Joys of summer: week #32

Then I faced the question…

Do I just start slow or wait until next Monday?

The “new day & new me” thing is a last ditch effort to whip my back in shape before admitting defeat. I moved forward with the plan rather than delaying it. I knew I wouldn’t make the assigned goals for my 1st day, but delaying it yet another week wouldn’t be wise. I struggled through and counted the day as one down.

What about you? Do you wait for a Monday to start new projects?

Now you know: Roman Emperor Vitellius put to death nearly every contractor, money-lender, and tax-gatherer who had ever demanded that he repay a debt or pay a toll. When one man’s execution was recalled, Vitellius had him killed anyway in his presence, saying he wished to “feast his eyes.”
