I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been watching the Lindsay Clancy trial while on ice for my back and between stretches and treadmill walks. That hasn’t changed, and the end of the trial is drawing near.
What the jury will decide is as foggy as it was here this morning.

Everyone has an opinion to share on social media.
From “you are evil if you support Clancy” to seeing the hundreds showing up at the courthouse dressed in pink to support her — the opinions… and perspectives… run the gamut. None of those comments mean anything to me at all, but when someone posted the following, it flipped a switch in my brain.
What if Clancy would’ve killed 3 puppies instead of her 3 children.
What??
If you’re like me, the insanity thing is hard to understand.
I never experienced postpartum depression — and matter of fact, I’ve never experienced any kind of real depression in my lifetime — and it’s not like I’ve not had some pretty big challenges. But I know people who have or have had mental illnesses. Even in personal connections, I struggle to understand it.
There are women posting videos of themselves holding their babies and crying with captions similar to “it could’ve been/could be me.” My senior brain says those women should be tracked by their IP address and social media credentials and those babies should be removed immediately from their care.
What I can understand is poor healthcare options.
It’s easy to see that Lindsay Clancy tried to get help. Many times. Most of us know that ongoing health problems (both mental and physical) are frustrating as all Hell — especially when you feel like no expert is listening or providing proper treatment. Heck, that’s where I’m at right now! But I’ve never heard voices or had suicidal or homicidal ideations. I know that others do… but personally, it’s so hard for me to understand.
That’s why it’s a good thing I’m not on the jury!
One minute, I realize that Lindsay was mentally ill — obviously. But was it was horrible enough that she ended 3 young lives and attempted to end her own? The next minute, I think about all the people on the planet that suffer with mental illness and don’t kill their children. (And they don’t kill puppies either.)
What about the trial theatre?
The defense attorney is amazing old dude and trial lawyer. The commonwealth attorneys are 2 overweight snarky women who overstepped bounds with family members already suffering a great loss.
How much weight should that have in the entirety of the trial? None. But it does! The one prosecutor who wears a big bow in her hair every single day, (likely because Cora, the oldest of the children, liked bows) pushes me toward support of the defense.
From my perspective, the prosecution so far has not met their burden of proof. They’ve not lived up to their opening statement of what they would show the jury. My prediction? Hung jury or not criminally responsible.
What are your thoughts before the verdict?
Now you know: Actress Angela Lansbury moved her entire family from California to Ireland because her daughter was starting to get involved with Charles Manson.
