staycation is over and I’m still alive

staycation is over and I’m still alive

I can’t tell you how excited I am about getting a normal night’s sleep tonight. At least… that’s what I’m hoping for anyway. Night after night with less than 4 hours sleep gets more difficult the longer it goes on. I hate that Perry’s staycation is over… and I’ll miss the company… but don’t call me early in the morning. 🙂

Perry had a list of things he wanted to get done to his vehicle this week. He might be a procrastinator. I say this because he finished the brakes at 9:30 PM on the last day — all while wearing a shirt that says, “You have died of dysentery.”

Carl helped out while Mom and I played beauty shop. She had the COVID hair thing going on and felt brave, so I wielded a pair of scissors. I did the fancy cut outside without wetting her locks while the wind was blowing.

Luckily, the style turned out pretty darned good even though our clothes looked like we’d both butchered white bunnies when we were finished. And that’s why she’s wearing my cool Mickey and Minnie shirt.

Back to normal tomorrow. I’m already looking forward to the weekend. You?

bananas must be a covid favorite

bananas must be a covid favorite

I’m dieting once again… it’s a never ending yo yo around here. I gained the obligatory covid 15-pounds and am more than half-way through getting rid of it. So what’s that got to do with bananas?

I mentioned I had Katie here post-surgery for the past week. Well… I always eat a banana before bed because it’s a 0 point food on Weight Watchers and I don’t go to bed hungry. Not out of the kitchen an hour, I return and…

Katie: I ate the bananas.
Me: All of them?
Katie: There were only 4.
Me: 4???
Katie: And I ate the grapes.
Me: Katie… there were 3 pounds of grapes.
Katie: Yah. WERE 3 pounds but not anymore.

My 1st mistake was showing her how to use the Walkie-Talkie app on the Apple Watch (it’s like a bell to ring for a sick kid, y’all). My 2nd mistake was underestimating her ability to eat and talk at the same time.

Katie is talking... and talking...

So I make a grocery order of $35 bucks because I’VE GOT TO HAVE BANANAS and I add 7 of them at 8 cents each. I get to submit and Wal-mart tells me there are no bananas. I close out the order.

So yesterday morning, I go back to the order and lo and behold they now have bananas! But the price has doubled. I’m guessing they were fresh out of 8 cent ones but have plenty of the 16 cent ones. Bananas are a hot covid commodity.

But then… when Perry picked up my grocery order this morning…

…there was ONLY ONE BANANA!!

I know I don’t have as much to lose as my favorite brother so I can’t expect amazing transformation photos. But holy cow! Check out his hard work!

I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want

I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want

Remember that oldie by the Spice Girls? I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha)…

Sadly, I don’t have a clue what I really, really want.

I would like to have a pool in my backyard. Let’s face it you guys, no matter how much we want to go back like it was in July 2019, that isn’t going to happen for awhile. A pool would be something to DO. It’s too hot outside without a way to cool off. It just is.

Wish I had a pool

No pools or installs until after summer is over. I would get on the waiting list for early spring 2021 (because I don’t think by then our world will be back like before) — but I don’t know if I really, really want to be in this house in a year. I guess I could do a hot tub that I don’t heat until fall… we enjoyed that.

how about a hot tub?

But honestly, although we could use the hot tub year-round, we liked the pool more.

I wouldn’t mind having a nice camper or motorhome. But… my mini cooper won’t pull much more than a bicycle and I don’t want to drive a big ole’ motorhome farther than 50′. I spent more than 1/2 my life behind the wheel of a huge yellow tin can — I’m over that.

school bus days in winter

Even worse, the thought of riding with Perry in a car gives me hives… I can’t imagine riding with him in something bigger than an SUV. (Sorry Per.)

Perry is a scary driver

So… I still don’t have a clue what I want, what I really, really want. I guess I’ll work, (ha) and mow, (ha) and take care of ungrateful doggies, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha)…

pho shiki, oh how I missed you!

pho shiki, oh how I missed you!

My first time in a restaurant since early March and Pho Shiki was the choice. Without hesitation. Ben and I wore our masks inside and were seated by a dude also wearing a mask. There were only two other tables with people seated so distancing wasn’t a problem.

What made me a bit uncomfortable was that our server was NOT wearing a mask. I understand they’re uncomfortable, but still — it wouldn’t have killed her to put one on just when visiting the table of patrons.

We celebrated Mom’s 49th birthday again on Saturday. Was awesome having everyone here — albeit social distanced. I didn’t wear a mask, but I served no one.

The pesky neighbors

Merida update: Although her behavior has improved a whole heap, we still have things to work on. What seems to help most insofar as managing her as she’s acting out is to get her on a leash immediately. One thing I haven’t yet figured out is what to do when she gets something she isn’t supposed to have.

For example… Carl keeps his water bottle in a coolie cup. (See it on his side in the photo above?). He set it on the ground by his chair for a brief minute and Merida had it. She and took off like a jet, crunching the empty bottle and dodging all attempts to get it from her. When chased, she thinks it’s play. If you don’t chase her, she destroys whatever it is she has.

Merida is simply a turd. Dharma is the only one that doesn’t seem to mind.

TIL (today I learned): Robert Downey Jr. was paid $10M for only 8 minutes of screen time in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. He got paid over $1 million per minute he’s in the movie. Read more here…

Perry has a few days off incoming

Perry took a couple days off that begin tomorrow. 5 days in a row to be exact. Now I know he’s thinking about all the sleep he’ll get and all the relaxing activities he’ll be taking part in — but I’m making a list.

There’s a ton of stuff that needs done around here and my helpers aren’t helping! One in particular is still posing a major challenge…

Merida just LOOKS innocent

Merida is enrolled in Doggie Boot Camp that starts the 14th of this month. We’ll have to wait and see how that goes. I’m thinking she needs Prozac or some pet equivalent but have my fingers crossed she’ll be more “manageable” after some training.

look at that face

While Perry is so looking forward to his “mini vacation,” I’m simply counting the minutes until I have a real weekend without meetings.

Here’s to Wednesday! The day that reminds us a weekend is right around the corner! 🙂
