Happy un-Mother’s Day

Happy un-Mother’s Day

Not like any other Mother’s Day in my history, today I’m looking forward to a drive-by.

And unlike Mothers Days past, today I’m eating leftovers. Perry loves meatballs made with that grape jelly sauce. First, I dropped a frozen meatball and Merida grabbed it up and ran under the bed. She ate it frozen.

Next, because I have 10,000 eggs, I boiled 18 to make deviled eggs to go with those meatballs. I used a kitchen towel underneath a paper towel for the eggs after removing the shell. Merida pulled the kitchen towel off the cabinet when I was distracted and did a full-on black dog run with one egg in her mouth. Dharma just stood and ate the other one while looking at me.

And finally, after three hours sleep the dogs woke me up. (Odd since Perry typically sleeps during the day.) I strolled through the living room only 1/2 awake to let them out and that’s when I found Perry, asleep on the lounge. He had the gas fireplace lit and right now — about an hour later with a window open, it’s still 84 degrees in the surrounding rooms.

So happy un-mothers day to me… happy Mothers Day to everyone else. Especially to my mom!

TIL (today I learned): Former presidents of the United States are not allowed to drive a vehicle except on private roads. They have to be accompanied by Secret Service and a driver for the rest of their lives. This measure was taken for security reasons following the assassination of JFK. Read the full article here…

a tale about hideous shoes

a tale about hideous shoes

Right before we went to Disney in late January of this year, we all got new shoes — all the same style in varying colors. They were cheap Sketchers and the ugliest shoes ever made… but oh, so comfortable!

These ugly shoes appear in almost every photo memory I have from our latest trip!

ugly shoes

We made the purchase because shoes are a big ole’ deal at Disney when you walk a bajillion miles a day. The trip before, Ben was the least prepared. After stating he didn’t want to take off his shoes for fear of finding a bloody stump, he wore my pink Havaianas flip flops for 3 or 4 days. (Not going to comment on the color of Perry’s legs, but you can snicker if you want to.)

those pink flip flops

What got me thinking about this today is because even Merida won’t bother those ugly shoes. She’ll eyeball one shoe from a pair I like and pass right by the ugly ones — even though they are front and center. And then… she’ll a snatch up a favorite and run.

Right now, shoes don’t matter to me at all. I only wear them to get the mail or walk on the treadmill. Hopefully — SOON — I’ll be wearing those pink Havainanas once again and they will be in one piece when I do.

Also, hopefully soon, I’ll wear those pink Havainanas in Disney. 🙂

I’m the grocery person for 3 families… meaning, I place the online order, Perry picks it up, and I sort the food into piles for “my people” to load up and take home. For hard to get items Perry will watch his store and buy them when available.

This morning, as I sorted the purchases from the pick-up order and Perry’s store score, I found that I’m now the proud owner of 168 eggs. Other than throwing them at cars, I’m not sure how I’ll get rid of so many eggs before they go bad.

It was an accident. I promise!

Merida struck again after 24-hours of good behavior. She found the small trash can (again) I use in the utility room for dryer lint. After depositing lint all through the house, she put plenty of teeth marks all around the top of the plastic container. And then she chewed the toes out of two socks. They weren’t mates.

First, I’ve turned into my mother. I actually washed a cool whip container yesterday. Today, Ben picked it up with food inside and didn’t complain one little bit. That’s probably because he returned 3 containers from a previous hot meal I prepared.

In news equally as depressing, the US recently purchased 100,000 more body bags. If turning into your Mom is a 3… anticipating the need of 100k body bags is a 10.

Indiana’s Governor said today there will be a 5-step reopening plan put into place. He says we’ll be 100% open on the 4th of July. Having said that, I’m surprised that 10 Indiana malls are set to open tomorrow — especially with Marion County numbers looking awful already. They claim they’ll have CDC-approved masks and sanitizing packets available for shoppers… two things unavailable to lowly online shoppers, like me.

All this RONA talk is making Merida crazy!

Rona's made Merida crazy!

It also caused her to eat 2 small jars of Vaseline — given to me by my dermatologist after a procedure. Merida isn’t picky when it comes to greasy stuff. From butter to Vaseline… she loves it all just the same.

Yesterday, I decided to back-up my photos and videos to the Amazon cloud. (If you have Amazon Prime, you get unlimited photo storage… in case you didn’t know.) Watching the thousands of photo and video titles roll by during upload, the video ‘Disney Vacation 2015‘ caught my eye.

I couldn’t help but open it… and then I got all teary-eyed and totally down in the dumps. There we were… with a bajillion other people… having a wonderful time — as “Do you want to build a snowman” played as background music. The part that “got me” was seeing how intimately Coco was able to interact with the Disney princesses.

How long before children again get to experience these magical encounters — and how will Disney handle this at reopen? Think about it… I’ll betcha their people are working day and night to figure out how to balance magical and practical.

All the surfaces we touch without a way to disinfect before a retouch…

Quick stats as of 1:50 PM ET 4/28/2020 (day #53 of isolation for me)
125 cases in Jackson County (up 7 since yesterday – 0 deaths)

1 death now in Jackson County. 🙁

Yes, that’s now over 1 million — more than double what it was on 4/10.
