There was a survey conducted that asked Americans to rate the professions with the most unethical people. Before reading the article, I automatically assumed lawyers and used car salespeople would tie for #1. But no! Here are the top 5:
Lobbyists — politics and government need an overhaul, that’s for sure.
Telemarketers — I would likely put this in #1 but didn’t think about it.
CONGRESS – again… politics and government.
Car salespeople – there they are!
State officeholders — again… politics and government.
Crazy to think that 3 of the top 5 professions that Americans think are unethical are those that are political.
The deck that may be finished by October…
Still not complaining since the weather isn’t warm enough to swim anyway, but this small deck may not be finished by fall. Poor Tim had a bad night and didn’t show up until a bit later than normal. He had 2 coons after his chickens. He killed one and one got away. He had 2 chickens dead and no eggs left, but he made noticeable progress today despite the setback.
Keep your fingers crossed that the wind dies down and the sun warms things up in southern Indiana. I’d appreciate it. 🙂
I love beans, cornbread, and fried potatoes with green onions and fresh tomatoes. I guess that makes me even more ‘country’ than some. While I don’t have fresh tomatoes yet, Mr. Pesky is working on that and did bring green onions!
How can 2 people who grew up the same be so different?
My favorite brother and I grew up with the same two parents in the same household. We had the same Nanny and we both spent a whole lot of time with her. But if I told him we were having beans and cornbread for dinner — he’d drive through McDonalds on his way here.
For him, bean soup from St. Elmo’s would be great — just not the traditional beans with cornbread. 🙄
Ben’s not a whole lot different than Scott when it comes to food — and he grew up on fish sticks, french fries, and “brown meat” (what he called roast). I’m not saying I don’t like things I might not have had when growing up… I’m a HUGE fan of Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese food. What’s different is I still like the old time home cooking food I had as a kid too.
What about you? Ever think how your siblings differ from you on the craziest things?
TIL (Today I Learned): Bean Soup is on the U.S Senate’s restaurant menu.
I know you’ve had earworms too — it happens to everyone at one time or another. It’s the term given to “that song” you can’t get out of your head. The one you listen to… then start singing along… and hours later you’re still singing it over and over in your head. Scientists have actually investigated (and developed a mathematical formula) to explain the phenomenon.
One 70’s song was named the most addictive earworm song of all time.
I can promise you it was in my ear the year I graduated, and it still gets in there from time to time. And now that I’m about to tell you, I’m singing it… and when you read the song title, you’ll likely get the earworm too…
QUEEN — “WE WILL ROCK YOU” Buddy, you’re an old man, poor man Pleading with your eyes, gonna make you some peace someday You got mud on your face, big disgrace Somebody better put you back into your place
It might even remind you of the iconic Pepsi commercial from 2015 with Pink, Beyonce and Brittany Spears.
What’s rockin’ round here?
Deck building…
And Diablo IV…
And finally… happy heavenly birthday to my Dad. ❤️
TIL (Today I Learned): Shaquille O’Neal was offered and declined the role of John Coffey in The Green Mile.
Upon going through email this morning, I was left feeling anxious. The word ‘anxious’ isn’t really right, but I don’t have a better word. Not scared as in frightened… just… ugh!
State Representative, Jim Lucas, of Seymour, was arrested for OWI — and leaving the scene of an accident. He’s a Republican so the Democrats are pulling out every single Republican name they can think of on social media to tie to his crime. I’ve never been a fan of his (I’ve read heated exchanges between him and another FB friend where he was rude and ugly) but c’mon, people.
Not willing to throw my thoughts out to social media — I’ll just sit here waiting to see if I can get honeysuckle I picked to take root…
And play Diablo 4 when it goes live tonight at 7:00 PM ET. 🙂
TIL (Today I Learned): The acronym “R.I.P.” has been engraved on tombstones since at least the fifth century. “Rest in Peace” is the English translation of a Latin phrase with the same acronym.
First, let us today remember and honor the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. As we reflect on veterans and military personnel who are deceased, let’s also be thankful for the freedoms we have because of their sacrifices. ❤️
Random tip that I have to share…
Over 2 years ago, a piece of Teddy Bear’s furniture impaled my finger as I was dusting. I’m not talking about a little splinter… I’m talking about a PLANK of wood. I pulled out the big part immediately, but my darned finger has been sore off and on ever since then. There had to be some of that wood left in there!
The process is always the same: a large callous builds up and I pick at it, try to dig out a splinter, trim off all the calloused skin, and even use an emery board to sand the sucker down. A month or so later, the process is repeated. So Mr. Pesky told me I needed to put “drawing salve” on it. I thought he was crazy. I figured it was nothing more than a folk remedy.
Dermatologists says it’s BS — vets say it works. The vets are right!
Ichthammol, the active ingredient in drawing salve, dates back to the 1400’s and is made from sulfonated shale oil. It’s been vets’ go-to advice for treating abscesses on the bottom of horses’ feet for years. I put it on my finger — that was red and swollen all the way around to the nail — for 4 nights covered with a Band-Aid.
Last night, I picked out that 2 year-old splinter that was still about 1/4 inch long.
Yes, I took a photo. No, I’m not going to share it. Instead, I’ll share a couple photos from our late lunch yesterday.
Just one more thing — DON’T USE BLACK DRAWING SALVE!
Black drawing salve is used for treating skin cancer and has been known to result in death. Black salve is made from different chemicals (including zinc chloride and sanguinarine) and kills skin cells indiscriminately.
TIL (Today I Learned): The Jim twins were separated at birth and reunited at age 39. Both had married and divorced someone named Linda, were currently married to a Betty, had sons named James Allan, had dogs named Toy, drove the same car, had jobs in security, and regularly vacationed at the same beach in Florida. 😯
