i put jayb on the naughty list for attempting to scam me

Sep 10, 2026

Today I got a text message from the email address, jayb.brin@gmail.com. It was from “Helen” who claimed to be an Amazon recruiter. It said my profile had been reviewed and with only 20 jobs available, it was decided that my old, retired self was the best fit to be the next Amazon employee.

That’s quite a recruitment strategy!

To work from home, I could make $500 for 90 minutes — 4 days a week. Sweet deal, right?

I could get granite countertops and new cherry cabinets without much effort at all! Yay!

Except it’s a scam… of course.

Everyone knows you should NEVER EVER respond to any of these type of garbage messages. If you’re like me, you block and delete and that’s it. But I actually went through the steps to put this person on the naughty list.

I forwarded the entire scam text to the FTC’s spam-reporting number 7726 (SPAM).

I doubt that does any good, but who knows. It can’t hurt, right?

Don’t fall for garbage spam/scam email, text messages or phone calls. Be careful out there — especially if you’re not retired and would love to have a job working from home for around $335/hour.

Now you know: The FTC received about 3 million fraud reports in 2025. In that same year, the FTC brought 40 law-enforcement actions involving fraudulent schemes.
