harvest day 2026 began yesterday – privacy fence going down!

Oct 6, 2026

Mr. Farmer rotates his crops so we had beans last year… corn this year. In 2024, corn was harvested on October 24th. Last year, 2025, bean harvest began on October 1st, more in line with this year’s corn harvest.

The corn crop began to disappear yesterday here at the barndo.

I don’t think chicken poop fertilizer comes after corn, but it definitely came after beans last year. That’s some stinky stuff, you guys. We love corn in the fields much more than a bean crop. Mom & Carl aren’t crazy about corn planted in the field in front of their place — they are thrilled for the corn to be gone so they can “see out.”

I’m sure Mr. Farmer will be back today to hopefully finish combining, but that doesn’t mean he’s done. He’ll work the field for days afterward and likely plant winter wheat again.

Curious about farming in my golden years…

I’ve mentioned before that I’m certainly no farmer, but I am interested. I couldn’t help but look up a bit of info on his John Deere 9400 because it looks pretty new to me. That alone shows how much I know.  🙄

Interesting that this combine was built from 1989-1997. NO WAY!! It’s the entry model that replaced the Titan series and has a182 bushel grain tank. At best, that ole’ girl is around 30 years old??

Next comes window washing.

It’s crazy how much dust is in the air during harvest. It settles on furniture and especially makes the windows dirty. No need to get in a hurry… washing windows now would be a total waste of energy.

No you know: John Deere marked 50 years of self-propelled combines in 1997. Their 75th year is right around the corner.
