Welp… Christmas 2022 is a wrap. Two days later and my trees are still lit when typically I am packing up on Christmas night. Even the itty bitty one outside is still shining.
A winter weather warning… again.
Although it’s warming up, the weather alerts just keep on coming. We had more snow yesterday morning (slick roads) and more predicted overnight (I’m writing this before sleep but officially the 27th) with freezing drizzle (slick roads) for today. Y’all know I’m a fan of snow — but I’m picky. I want lots of wet snow with temps right at freezing. Is that too much to ask? Obviously… yes.
Dharma is a happy girl now that it’s not sub zero… she loves cooler temps and snow. She’d stay out there all day long if you’d let her. She’s certainly got the coat for it.
TIL (Today I Learned): Cleopatra was born of incest. “More than a dozen of Cleopatra’s ancestors tied the knot with cousins or siblings, and it’s likely that her own parents were brother and sister. In keeping with this custom, Cleopatra eventually married both of her adolescent brothers.
My photography skills were about as low as they’ve ever been during this year’s Christmas gathering. The only image worth even sharing is this one… and it’s marginal. 🙂
But the night AFTER Christmas there are a few creatures stirring. This one, for example:
Colette got a record player and I learned that vinyl records are the hot thing again. It was like a blast from the past! I remember as a kid we had more than one — a cabinet type in the living room and a smaller one in the bedroom. As I got a little older, the one in the pool room played a whole lot of Waylon, Willie, Hank Jr., and Jessie Colter.
Coco loves Michael Jackson so we purchased a couple long-play vinyls (records in old person speak), and we threw in a Pink Floyd just because. But if I hear the song “Money” (official video on youtube) one more time within the next 10 years it will be one time too many. This new suitcase record player allows the speed to be changed. For the record, (pun intended) I can sing “Money” on every speed… no matter how fast or slow it’s played. 😏
Money Get back I’m alright, Jack, keep your hands off of my stack.
Here’s hoping you had a fabulous Christmas filled with family and just a little quiet time to recover. 🙂 And money.
TIL (Today I Learned): Per NPR, the Bald Eagle population has recovered. They are now fairly common birds to be seen in residential areas.
Y’all… it’s miserable cold here in the Ville. How cold is it?
Let me show you how cold it is!
That’s the inside handle of the storm door. If that’s not enough to convince you it’s cold, how about you take a close look at the photo below…
See that little yellow spot in the snow? Dharma may have a heavy coat of hair, but she is still using the deck to pee instead of going out in the yard. Can’t say that I blame her.
TIL (Today I Learned): In the movie, Die Hard, Bruce Willis wears 34 different undershirts each with a different level of grime.
Everything predicted so far regarding the winter storm has become reality. It’s dropped 40° and the wind is howling. Seriously… HOWLING, you guys. Currently, it’s FOUR DEGREES and snowing.
My weather app says the wind is holding steady around 28mph with gusts reaching 46mph. At almost midnight, my app also says the snow will be stopping soon.
And then it’s going to drop to -4° with wind chills in the negative 30’s or so. 🥶
Hard to believe it’s 75° in the office right now even though I’m opening the door every 30 minutes to let a certain girl outside.
Dharma LOVES snow!
TIL (Today I Learned): Astronauts eat steak and eggs before a flight because it’s filling and low on dietary fiber so they won’t have to poop during the mission.
As of right now (around 9:00 AM ET), it’s still snowing. I’m currently on my first cup of coffee so I haven’t ventured outside yet, but captured the above photo by sticking my phone out the door. Looking out the window, I can barely see the Pesky’s house. It’s a white out! 😉
I’m thrilled to be here… even if I am a little chilly.
We’ve yet to fire up the outside wood burning furnace to enjoy the radiant floor heat. It was 70 degrees yesterday, after all. Still not a fan of the split units, but it’s a comfortable — albeit a tad chilly — 68° in the office this morning.
When living in Seymour, the only snow photos I took included a privacy fence or other neighboring homes. That’s because that’s all I could see. This view might not be any better to some people… but it sure is to me!
It’s certainly warm enough to paint inside.
I started painting yesterday in the kitchen. So much trim! I didn’t make a whole lot of progress but will be back at it today. Ben showed up last night for a few and told me the new color is boring. Thanks so much, asshole.
I love me some dark paint colors but for some reason I don’t like them here. I’m the one that had a purple living room before the move, remember? 😉 This time, I choose a really light green (and typically I hate green) for the kitchen area.
Bye, bye, beige!
I’ll be getting my dark color fix with an accent wall. Let’s see if Ben thinks it’s still boring when I finish. More photos to come tomorrow. I stayed away from the Chip and Joanna castle colors. I liked the show, Fixer Upper, much better when they weren’t doing their own business projects. Their tagline, “Welcome Home,” doesn’t even fit anymore.
TIL (Today I Learned): In the event of a battery fire, Tesla’s electric door latches will not open and there are only manual latch overrides for the front doors, not the rear.
